This pin commemorates the WR Grace, the Down Easter Ship The WR Grace was a clipper ship known as a Down Easter - a large efficient sailing vessel approximately 215' long and 42' wide. It was built in Maine in the 1870s and named for the founder of the company, William Russell Grace. The WR Grace Company was a pioneer steamship company active in the 19th and 20th centuries. It went down off the coast of Cape Henlopen in a hurricane on September 12, 1889. The ship stands out on the front and is marked, WR Grace. It is in excellent condition. What a nice piece of history for anyone interested in sailing!
